Hearts of Palm
Pastene Hearts of Palm are a vegetable harvested from the core of certain types of palm trees. Also known as palmito (Bactris gasipaes).
They have a high fiber content, no cholesterol, and large amounts of iron and calcium. Hearts of palm are mostly grown
in equatorial parts of the globe. With their fresh, delicate piquant taste, (sort of a cross between artichoke hearts and water
chestnuts) ivory color, and firm texture hearts of palm are a delicious addition to any salad.
